내용 - Matriculation of 18 Uzbek students at CPU Korean Language Center -
The Chungcheongbuk-do Provincial Government held a welcome ceremony on July 17 for 18 international students from Uzbekistan, who became the first to be matriculated at Chungbuk Provincial University (CPU) Korean Language Center.

After undertaking various steps, such as immigration screening and health inspection at Incheon International Airport on June 24, they entered CPU Korean Language Center on June 26, where they will attend a year-long language education course.

Chungcheongbuk-do has been actively promoting domestic and global activities to attract international students to revive its municipality and university due to the recent decrease of the student population in the province.

In particular, Chungcheongbuk-do Governor Kim Young-hwan visited Uzbekistan in April with public officials to hold a briefing session on its international student program. With this, Governor Kim received letters of intent from 700 Uzbek students who expressed their will to study in Chungcheongbuk-do. Governor Kim's delegation also promoted other activities, such as interviewing the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan and the Minster of Higher Education, Science and Innovation to discuss ways in a multi-faceted effort to support Chungcheongbuk-do universities and Uzbek universities to sign MOUs and invite international students from Uzbekistan.

Meanwhile, CPU is working hand in hand with Chungcheongbuk-do to promote the international student program, having accepted numerous international students, including seven students from Vietnam for an associate degree program of the CPU Dept. of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering in March. CPU also plans to invite a total of 100 Korean language students for the fall semester from September to December, starting with the 18 Uzbek students who matriculated at the Korean Language Center.

Governor Kim stated, “The recent matriculation of Uzbek students holds significance in that provinces still had sufficient internationalization capabilities even amid the atmosphere where most international students entering Korea seek the capital or metropolitan areas for their education. We will further develop our international student program to propose a new vision for our province’s development, where excellent talents from overseas study in our local universities, work in local companies, and settle in our local neighborhoods.”

At the welcome ceremony, an Uzbek student commented, “We were deeply impressed by the institutional support from Chungcheongbuk-do regarding the education of international students, the educational environment that promotes a healthy work-study balance, and CPU’s advantageous studying conditions, such as the wide range of scholarships and comfortable dormitories. I will promote Chungcheongbuk-do's international student program to more Uzbek students.”
