내용 - Reopening of antenna shop in a globally renowned resort town in Hawaii -

The Chungcheongbuk-do Provincial Government initiated its full-fledged support for the export of the province's excellent local agricultural products on July 5, establishing an antenna shop in Honolulu, Hawaii, for the expansion of agricultural product export.

Chungcheongbuk-do opened the antenna shop at Palama Supermarket Makaloa, located near the popular tourist attraction Waikiki Beach. The shop will be open until October 5, collecting consumer data of various age groups as it is near a university campus, a major convention center, and hotels.
Chungcheongbuk-do will utilize this data to contribute to further exports, and hold various programs, such as regular tasting sessions and merchandising events, to gauge local demand and expand the lineup according to the shipment schedules, starting with the stock of 85 local products from 22 province-based companies, most notably kimchi, seasoned seaweed, snacks, and beverages.

Chungcheongbuk-do opened the antenna shop in Hawaii last year to diversify its exports, and during its four-month operation (Sep. 15 to Dec. 15), the market displayed outstanding performance with a total export worth USD 149,000, showcasing and selling 115 items (e.g., fresh fruits, processed food products) from 24 companies.

In particular, the antenna shop was an immense success in expanding the sales channel for province-based businesses, as most of the Korean kimchi sold in supermarket franchises in Hawaii were taken over by the kimchi lineups from Chungcheongbuk-do.

An official of Chungcheongbuk-do stated, “Hawaii is a region with great consumer potential because it has the power to attract the attention of tourists across the globe as well as locals who love Korean food. We will utilize this merit to its full potential to develop and expand the export of Chungcheongbuk-do’s prominent agricultural products.”

Currently, Chungcheongbuk-do operates two antenna shops―one in Hawaii and one in Vietnam, which opened this past May at K-Market Hanoi, raising favorable response from Vietnamese locals.

Meanwhile, Chungcheongbuk-do’s agricultural product exports reached a cumulative total of USD 282 million as of May 2024 (up 25.4% YoY). Chungcheongbuk-do’s various agricultural support programs allowed the consistent rise of exports in fresh food products (USD 28.904 million; up 2%), including kimchi, fruits, and flowers, as well as processed goods (USD 223.578 million; up 19%), such as snacks, coffee products, and beverages, which were proven items that had been showing steady growth.
