The Chungbuk Agricultural Research and Extension Services (Director Jo Eun-hee) Wine Research Institute announced that it hosted the “Chungbuk-Yamanashi Wine Exchange Meeting” on Thursday, August 8, in the seminar room on the 5th floor of the main building of the Cheongju Culture Manufacturing Center.

The event featured a seminar and a wine tasting focused on the wine industries of Chungcheongbuk-do and Yamanashi Prefecture. The seminar covered the history of wine, industry scale, key grape varieties, and winemaking techniques of both regions. During the wine tasting, professional sommeliers evaluated ten wines from Chungbuk and ten leading wines from Yamanashi.

Following the tasting, a meeting was held to discuss wine imports and exports and next year’s wine exchange event, incorporating feedback from Chungbuk wineries.

This exchange meeting is part of the celebrations for the 30th anniversary of the sisterhood between Chungbuk Province and Yamanashi Prefecture, aiming to strengthen practical exchanges across various fields to foster mutual development.

Jo Eun-hee, Director of the Chungbuk Agricultural Research and Extension Services, stated, “This wine exchange will significantly contribute to the advancement of the wine industry and foster friendly cooperation between the two regions. We look forward to continuing mutual exchanges to jointly address the development of the Asian wine industry.”

For reference, Yamanashi Prefecture in Japan boasts a 150-year history of wine production, accounting for 17% of Japan’s total wine production (80,000 tons).
